How much better is silence; the coffee cup, the table. How much better to sit by myself like the solitary sea-bird that opens its wings on the stake. Let me sit here for ever with bare things, this coffee cup, this knife, this fork, things in themselves, myself being myself.
— VIRGINIA WOOLF, THE WAVES
Last time I visited Jamaica, I stayed in the parish of St. Ann at this beautiful inn right by the sea. The view was spectacular; my surroundings were quiet, peaceful, and unspoiled. Each day I would sit on the balcony and gaze out to the sea, and thank God for allowing me to wake up to this.
